3D scan data is intitially created as a mesh file; STL or OBJ. Later in the reverse engineering process, CAD files can be created into file formats such as STEP, IGES, and XT.
After each scan is completed, data is cleaned up to eliminate holes, erroneous data points, and geometry can be properly identified. All of this is completed without changing the integrity of the scan.
Reverse engineering scan data into a CAD file allows for the data to be fully functional. 3D models will represent all of the correct measurements of the original object along with hole diameters and radii.
Our technicians have various settings to limit the export size of files. Post processing gets rid of unneeded data and can itemize important data into separate files, keeping file sizes smaller and useful.
